1/21/2024 0 Comments Epic store hit a roadblock![]() King Canyon has had a good run, but you can't expect the players to keep grinding in the same setting for a long time. A new setting is what I personally want to see. Yes, it's nowhere close to the ever-growing popularity of Fortnite, but I truly believe that the game can get back on its feet and put up a good fight.Ī new Legend and a few cosmetic upgrades are not really going to save the game in my opinion. That being said, it's not late for Apex Legends to catch up. It's safe to say that EA's Respawn couldn't live up to the expectations and manage to keep the boat afloat. Don't get me wrong, 'Apex Legends' is far from being dead with millions of active players, but the current numbers are also far from the peak figures it recorded a couple of months back. Just look at the 'Apex Legends' (BLUE) dying popularity in comparison to 'Fortnite' (RED), which constantly sees a spike in traffic, thanks to all the new content that makes its way into the game. Not just that, here's a quick look at the popularity graph on Google Trends. 'Apex Legends' hardly has around 10,000 viewers on Twitch whereas 'Fortnite' still manages to hold over 100,000 viewers at any given time. In its current state, 'Apex Legends' popularity has been drastically decreasing below its competitor, 'Fortnite'. 'Apex Legends' couldn't really make a dent on Epic Games' Fortnite after all. In addition to all that, 'Fortnite' has always been Twitch streamers' favourite game. 'Fortnite', on the other hand, was going crazy with things like an in-game music festival, kickass collaborations like the Avengers crossover event, and more during the same time. ![]() Even the cosmetic upgrades and a new season couldn't save the game. Even after a month or so of the launch, I was looking at the exact same game. I say lack of content because there was literally nothing new about the game. Naturally, these streamers were going to ditch Apex Legends for other games, and that's exactly what happened.Īnd thanks to the lack of any new and interesting content, 'Apex Legends' failed to maintain the initial enthusiasm. Turns out, EA spent millions of dollars on popular streamers like Ninja and Shroud to promote the game on their channel around the launch. But the financial website Seeking Alpha pointed it out that much of the early traffic wasn't organic. ![]() Respawn said it 'closely' worked with these streamers to make the game better. Why did the streamers stop playing it? So, here's the deal - None of these popular streamers started playing the game willingly. And just like that, the number of eyeballs started dropping. Popular Twitch streamers like 'Ninja', 'Shroud', and 'Dr. ![]() The game's main source of traffic was dying. Soon after 'Apex Legends' became the alpha dog of the Battle Royale genre, the game hit its first and a major roadblock. Respawn was literally looking at millions of players and billions of estimated revenue. The game was so popular that some financial firms valued 'Apex Legends' at a whopping $7.4 billion right after its launch. You don't even have to take my word for it. I mean, even Drake was playing it back then, so 'Apex Legends' was playing on dangerous grounds. 'Fortnite', by the way, was the most popular game around this time. ![]() So yes, 'Apex Legends' was clearly being seen as a 'Fortnite' killer. Just to put things into perspective, it took 'Fortnite' 100 days to reach 45 million players. 'Apex Legends' saw explosive growth and it hit 50 million players in just a matter of 30 days. It was a clear indication that a lot of players were checking out the game across the globe. The matchmaking time was surprisingly low for a game that was launched like an hour ago. Yes, I was one of the first players to download the game and jump into the 'Kings Canyon'. ![]()
